I will always have confidence in the power of observation to establish truth. There are broad categories of knowledge that can be discovered by observation, subjected to verification by experiment and repeatable by other observers. 

Our age of government incentivized science has been the source of a lot of problems.  Read the link. It is much more articulate than I could ever be. 

The worst thing about the abuses is the aid and comfort it gives to the anti-vaxxers and anti-GMO and other crazies. 

Hard to see where the solutions will come from. I am fully in favor of criminal charges against the most egregious abusers.
